Every day for the past four decades, Roy Rodriguez has carried the heartbreak of his sister’s homicide. On a recent afternoon, the 64-year-old also carried a piece of paper, a marker and a bouquet of flowers. Every first responder dedicates life and limb to serving others. But some, said Ventura County Fire Chief Dustin Gardner, rise above expectations. Demolition has started on Camarillo’s vacant Kmart building. The work marks the beginning of a major remodel of the Central Plaza shopping center at Arneill Road and Ponderosa Drive. Camarillo has hired a new lobbying firm, Sacramento-based Arc Strategies, to advocate on the city’s behalf for state legislation and funding.
